Last night I was craving the sweet creamy dreamy taste of a chai tea latte, but was not about to go out in the freezing cold to get it. Rummaging through my kitchen, I came up with a ‘cheater’s version’. I do not claim it’s as good as the real thing, but it’s pretty darn close. Give it a try!
Step 1 – Fill mug 3/4 full with milk, microwave for 2 minutes
Step 2 – In another heatproof container, mix 3-4 teaspoons of sugar, pinch of cinnamon, pinch of nutmeg, stir to mix
Step 3 – Add a drop or two of vanilla extract to spice mixture, set aside
Step 4 – When milk is heated – dunk tea bag into milk, wrap bag on spoon to squeeze – repeat several times to reach desired strength
Step 5 – Add a tablespoon or two of warm milk to the spice mixture, stir to form syrup
Step 6 – Pour syrup into mug of warm milk and stir to mix
**You can also add a pinch of ginger, allspice,and/or cardamom to the sugar and spice mixture if you have them on hand, but is delicious without
